The Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream...is it worth the hype?
Summer is for lighter moisturizers. Winter is for heavier moisturizers. We all know the drill, but that isn’t always necessarily the case. Sometimes summer weather can dry out your skin further; maybe you’re in a drier climate like the southwest region, and while the thermometer is reading over 100 degrees, the air feels like moisture is being sucked out by a vacuum. I decided to try out Etude House’s Moistfull Collagen Cream and see if it could offer relief.
Basically, it boasts the results of a heavier moisturizer while feeling like a lighter moisturizer on your skin. Color me intrigued! Here’s the super official break down of what’s inside: 30% pure hydrolyzed collagen (woah), specifically marine collagen (a protein found in the scales of saltwater fish that provides a superfluous amount of moisture), and Baobab tree extract, which nourishes and improves skin elasticity with its vitamin A, D, E, and F. This Baobab tree extract also plays a role in anti-aging because it is rich in omega fatty acids – a fantastic predator of free radicals.. It’s also hypoallergenic, free of parabens and mineral oil, and doesn’t negatively affect those with acne prone skin.
Feel and Consistency: This cream has a gel-like texture which definitely helps it feel so lightweight on the skin. I love the idea that I’m still getting an amazing shot of ingredients without feeling like I need to over-saturate my skin to feel the affects. A little goes a long way here. A small amount covers your face and is absorbed so quickly. I would even recommend this for day-time use.
Scent: It has a floral scent – it’s not overpowering or aggressive. I get queasy very easily from overly sweet scents, and I found this to be a light, unobtrusive scent. However, I don’t particularly like when my skincare has a scent, regardless of whether I like the smell or not. Fragrances can be irritating to your skin.
When/How to Use: I used this after cleansing, toning, and using any treatments. I dipped just a finger in and used the product that clung on. It was plenty. As I said above, a little goes a long way. If you’re wearing this during the day, you can follow up with sunscreen, or if you’re using it as a night cream, it can be your last step in your routine.
Overall, I think this product does what it claims to do. I think it would be a great addition to those who are still dry in the summer months but who don’t want to pack on a heavy or thick moisturizer like COSrx’s Hyaluronic Acid Cream. It gives your skin an instant lift and plump – it has that supple, almost bouncy feel after you apply it. I appreciate that it’s also an anti-aging product. After all, it was voted the second best moisturizer in Korea by “Get it BEAUTY” in 2010, and has the cult following to prove it.
My only con would be that it can look a little oily, which is not something I personally like during the summer. To offset this, follow it with the Innisfree Perfect UV Protection Cream since this sunscreen has a great mattifying end to your daytime routine.
